Therapy intensives

Therapy Intensives are an increasingly popular way of seeking therapy. Instead of (or before/during) meeting more frequently at 50 or 80 minute intervals, we will meet for three hours or more over the course of two or three days. Amy uses all of the training she brings to traditional couple's therapy and individual therapy  including PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple's Therapy), AEDP, and Gottman.

In couple's intensives, Amy often explores the following:

  • Regulation, and coregulation through explicit felt sense of connection

  • Exploration of childhoods, providing education on attachment styles and patterns (illuminating why you may be stuck in these patterns).

  • Understanding blockages to trust and connection

  • Repairing current day issues and wounds of the past that keep coming up

  • Learning new ways of interacting | Relaxing into feelings of connectedness, commitment, and care.

  • Amplifying feelings of love, commitment, and excitement, particularly before life changes such as getting married or recommitting, having a baby, or empty nesting.

You might opt for an intensive if:

  • You want change NOW, but aren't able to commit to a regular frequency for typical sessions

  • You want to jump start your therapy experience

  • Upcoming life transitions, including introducing a baby or moving

  • One or both partners are currently out of state, but have the ability to travel to Colorado

Isn't All That Therapy Exhausting?

Amy's style of therapy, particularly PACT, is especially useful for therapy intensives. With an experiential style, it is likely you won't be sitting for all three therapy hours. We get to the heart of the matter, and sometimes have a lot of fun too. I also have a trained eye for signs of dysregulation, and work to keep you calm and regulated during the session, which means less exhausted after session.

That being said, emotional processing can be hard on the body, and I will always encourage you to plan for self care after session-- good food and hydration, time outside/sunlight, time in water (eg: showering, bathing, swimming, soaking), exercise, solitude, quiet time together, etc can all be useful for helping your body feel better after emotional experiences.
